Marcy Dugger, Director of Federal and Special Programs, represented Bald Knob Public Schools well as she presented to other educators at the Student Focused Teacher Led Conference. She engaged educators in ideas and strategies that Bald Knob has used in its quest to meet the needs of students and families through partnerships within our community via Bright Futures Bald Knob. Through Bright Futures Bald Knob, our school and community continues to build the capacity of our community's time, talents and treasures by expanding partnerships and developing support systems to create new opportunities for children and youth in our community. Thank you, Ms. Dugger, for living out BKPS's mission to make every minute for every student of every day count at home and at school! #BrightFuturesBaldKnob #LeadingtheWayInAllWeDo #prideachievementintegrity

Today is National Family Health & Fitness Day, a time dedicated to promoting physical activity, healthy habits, and overall wellness for families across the country. The day is an opportunity for families to come together and prioritize their health and well-being. Physical activity is an important component of overall health and wellness. Regular exercise can help improve cardiovascular health, strengthen muscles and bones, and reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. It can also improve mood, reduce stress, and enhance overall quality of life. National Family Health and Fitness Day USA provides an opportunity for families to engage in physical activity together. This can include going for a walk or hike, playing sports, or participating in group fitness classes. By making physical activity a family activity, parents can model healthy habits for their children and instill a love of exercise and activity from an early age. In addition to physical activity, National Family Health and Fitness Day USA also encourages families to prioritize other aspects of wellness, such as healthy eating habits and mental health. Families can prepare and enjoy healthy meals together, take time for relaxation and self-care, and prioritize getting enough sleep.

Bald Knob Public Schools was thrilled to partner with Harding University, Carr College of Nursing, this week to perform vision and hearing screenings for our students this year. As required by law, all students in grades K, 1, 2, 4, 6, and 8 are screened. In addition, any student who is new to the district, holds an IEP, or receives dyslexia services are also screened. During our mass screening dates, we performed a total of 558 vision and 537 hearing screenings. While additional students will be screened due to absences and re-screenings, we are so thankful for this partnership that provides additional support to screen our students every year - ultimately helping us meet the needs of our students. Many thanks to Harding University, Carr College of Nursing! #EveryMinuteEveryStudentEveryDay

Through the coordination of BKPS's Director of Health Services, Nurse Andrea Mason, BKPS recently partnered with the White County Health Department to provide a vaccine clinic for our students that were still needing the required school vaccines. This year thirty-one (31) students participated in our vaccine clinic! The vaccine clinic greatly reduced the number of students that are still lacking vaccines. The benefits of this opportunity are HUGE: (1) parents save personal time off at work in order to take their child to a clinic and (2) students do not miss class when this option is chosen. Immunizations offered through this clinic were Tdap, which is needed after 11 years old, and MCV4, which is needed in 7th grade and again after turning 16. A complete list of school required vaccines can be found at https://www.healthy.arkansas.gov/images/uploads/rules/ImmunizationRequirements.pdf. Many thanks to Nurse Andrea Mason and the White County Health Department for ensuring compliance with vaccine requirements!

Today BKPS welcomed students from the Searcy School District's EAST lab to our campus. These lovely ladies came to tour our mobile library bus. They are in the beginning phase of creating their own mobile library for the Searcy School District and wanted to come see our bus and ask questions about the process so they could go back and present their project idea to their district administration. Great group of girls with fantastic questions. Dr. Bobby Hart, you should be very proud.

On September 25, Math Storytelling Day encourages everyone to tell stories through math. This is a day to appreciate all the ways math enhances our daily lives. The day is a great opportunity to get children excited about math through stories and games. Math stories can include logic, patterns, puzzles and numbers. Tell math jokes and sing songs about math. It’s an excellent way to explore math and promote learning. #MathStorytellingDay

11 Sep 2023 Bald Knob’s new boogie Posted at 8:39 AMh in Features by 501 LIFE Share By Kelli Reep It was a sea of bulldog blue at Bald Knob Public Schools’ back-to-school breakfast for teachers and staff on Aug. 7. The theme “We Grow Together” set the stage for the school year’s vision and 1970s décor, door prizes and other treats were given to encourage teachers and staff throughout the year. Bald Knob Mayor Gary Looney attended with Balk Knob Police Chief Larry House, as well as Volunteer Fire Department Chief Danny Holobaugh and Southern Bank’s Vince Vire, a community partner. Bald Knob Board of Education members and the Superintendent and Rotary President Melissa Gipson also participated in the event. John Blankenship, transportation director, led the prayer. Board of Education Secretary Paul Johnston said the focus of teachers and staff must be the students. “We can’t be content with status quo and daily routines that aren’t working,” he said. “There may be a better way to lead, and it takes hard work and dedication to get our students to achieve more.” The breakfast included fruit pizza with assorted fresh fruit slices, biscuits and sausage gravy, bacon, ham and sausage, hashbrown casserole, scrambled eggs, coffee, orange juice and punch. Popcorn balls and door prizes were also given to raffle ticket winners, and attendees could have photos taken at two photo booths, including a peace sign and 1970s-era Volkswagen bus. Paul Johnston, secretary of the Board of Education, gave the vision for the school year, “Working Together to See Students Achieve at Higher Levels.” Kellie Smith, director of Bald Knob Public Education Foundation and a fifth-grade teacher at H.B. Luker Elementary School, discussed how the foundation gives scholarships to seniors at graduation to help with college, vocational and trade school expenses. Last year, the foundation granted 20 scholarships worth about $22,000. Funds for the scholarships come from people in the community, as well as teachers and staff within the school district. Tammy Glaze (from left), Davissa Brimer and Kari Smith, all Kindergarten teachers at H.L. Lubker Elementary School at Bald Knob Public Schools, go all in on the 1970s theme at the back-to-school breakfast. “We are embarking on an incredible journey of learning this year with great opportunities for positive celebrations ahead,” Gipson said. “Our schools have been hard at work over the summer, ensuring the upcoming academic year is one of growth, learning and safety. Our teachers and staff are delighted to welcome our students back to school and dedicated to providing them with the highest quality education and support. We are committed to fostering a supportive learning environment where each student can thrive and excel in our district’s core values—pride, achievement and integrity.” The first day of school was Aug. 14. Formed in 1897 from the Shady Grove District, Bald Knob Public Schools has grown from a two-teacher school to a campus housing an early childhood center and elementary, middle and high schools. Accredited by the Arkansas Department of Education, Bald Knob Public Schools encompasses almost 184 square miles in White and Jackson counties and serves Bald Knob and portions of Bradford, Russell and Judsonia.
