National School Counseling Week

Feb 05, 2018
National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), will be celebrated from Feb. 5-9 by Bald Knob School District, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of professional school counselors within U.S. school systems and how students are different as a result of what school counselors do.
As part of its celebration for the week, Bald Knob School District recognizes the district’s counselors: Teresa Johnson, Stephaine Muckelberg and Paula Gilbee.

Students of all ages work with counselors in their buildings to learn both academic and social lessons. “Mrs. Teresa Johnson serves the students of H. L. Lubker Elementary with a true servant’s heart;” Ashlee Roberts, Johnson’s colleague, said. “She constantly works to make sure they are fed, clothed, and most importantly loved.  It is evident they understand how much she cares by the way they daily greet her with hugs and smiles.”

Bald Knob Middle School student, Colbe McBride, said, "I remember the first time I was in class with Mrs. Muckelberg, and all I could think about when I left was that she actually cared what we thought,” he said. “It wasn’t her just teaching us about the issues, but she really wanted to help us. I don’t think I would want anybody else to be my counselor."

Rhett Roach, student council president at BHKS, appreciates his counselor’s positive attitude. “At Bald Knob High School, students recognize Ms. Gilbee as more than ‘just a teacher,’’’ he said. “Daily, she can be found walking the halls of the high school between classes, building relationships with the Bald Knob students. Ms. Gilbee can never be found in a bad mood. She is enthusiastic about her job and enjoys sharing laughter as well as a warm smile to everyone who approaches. Ms. Gilbee prides herself on making uplifting relationships with her students, and for that we are truly grateful.”

National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. “Bald Knob School District is thankful for our school counselors,” Superintendent Melissa Gipson said. “They each work tirelessly to make certain every student’s needs are met as quickly as possible.  They serve as a resource to students, parents and colleagues in times of joy and in times of sadness. This week and every week we honor their hard work and diligence.  After all, they are what makes our Bald Knob family stronger.”
